Jonathan Fortier is the director of Lib​er​tar​i​an​ism​.org. Over the past 25 years he has worked to promote the principles of a free society with many organizations, including Liberty Fund, the Institute for Humane Studies, and the Fraser Institute. He earned his MPhil and his doctorate at the University of Oxford.

David T. Beito is professor emeritus of history at the University of Alabama and a senior research fellow at the Independent Institute. He is the author of several books and scholarly articles, including From Mutual Aid to the Welfare State: Fraternal Societies and Social Services (2000), T.R.M. Howard: Doctor, Entrepreneur, Civil Rights Pioneer (2017), and The New Deal’s War on the Bill of Rights: The Untold Story of FDR’s Concentration Camps, Censorship, and Mass Surveillance (2023).

In this episode, Jonathan Fortier speaks with David T. Beito, Senior Fellow at the Independent Institute and Professor Emeritus in the Department of History at the University of Alabama. Together they discuss his new book The New Deal’s War on the Bill of Rights, particularly focusing on FDR’s use of censorship and the implementation of Japanese internment camps during World War II.
